New Directions for Keeping Kurrent

After ten years of airing radio programs Keeping Kurrent is restating it's mission and vision. The Mission and Vision statements are available on this site. Some of the important key aspects of that vision include:

  • Quality Communities What does it mean to you to live in a quality community? Is it safe? Can you have meaningful conversation with your neighbors? Can you purchase goods from close-by retail outlets? Does your residence have heating and cooling equipment that use sustainable energy supplies? Do you have a vehicle that uses sustainable resources? If you'd like to explore these options then turn to try out the comments recorded from professionals and from individuals who consider that they already live in a quality neighborhood. Check out the Quality Community web page.
  • Travel - Travel options have been cheaper and more available to individuals. However, there are some side effects for those communities we visit. The effects may include substantial waste generation, mindless purchasing of goods instead of support for local craftsmen, damage to the rivers, historical sites, and valuable countryside and ignoring the culture and wonder of the local residents. Keeping Kurrent will have recorded information about viable travel options that view sustainable travel as the future. Check out the travel page.
  • Fine Arts - Have you read a book, seen a play, sat in a coffee house where poets read their poetry? If you haven't then Keeping Kurrent the place where you'll hear from today's writers and poets. They are very clever and often have humorous ways at looking at our life. Check out the Fine Arts web page.
  • Education - What sort of educational programs best serve the public? There are many opportunities for in your area. In the Greater Portland (Oregon) area there are many excellent public, private and charter schools. They are each impacted by the No-Child-Left-Behind laws and regulations. How does that affect you. Likewise, what adult education and lifelong learning opportunities are there. I am especially interested in identifying and learning more about university programs for persons over 60 years of age. Perhaps you have some interesting stories to tell. See more about these programs on the Educational web page.
  • Environment - We face many environmental issues that both immediately impact us or will cause irreparable damage to the world's population. The most immediate issues include global warming or, really, radical climate variation, water and air pollution, use of non-replaceable resources (sustainability issues). Turn to the Environmental web page to see what issues will be covered by Keeping Kurrent.
  • Food Security -What does food security mean and how does it apply to our eating habits and pocket values. Keeping Kurrent will explore a variety of issues including farmer's markets, sustainable food processing, farm resources, and organizations that examine food security. Take a look at the Food Security web page.
  • Your health matters - You, your family, friends, your boss, and all the community members who value your contribution to society as well as the sharing of your talents. Health issues need to be examined carefully. Medical services and the United States cost United States citizens more money each year than many other countries while some 37 million people are without health care. You need to examine this aspect of our lives. Check out the Your Health Matters web page.
  • Seniors and Boomers Speak Up - Many web sites Provide an links to other sites which are a resource to boomers and seniors. On Keeping Kurrent you'll continue to listen to professionals working with seniors as well as directly from seniors who have opinions about various issues they face. Check out the Seniors and Boomers Speak Up.
